Dear Friends --
Huge news: SB 79 just passed the legislature and is headed to Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk for his signature!
Will you take a moment to celebrate by asking Gov. Newsom to sign SB 79?

This is an historic win for the YIMBY movement – and it's been a long time coming. In 2018 California YIMBY sponsored our very first bill, SB 827, which would have made it easier to build homes near transit stops. That bill died in its first committee vote.
In 2019 we came back with SB 50, which also would have legalized homes near public transit. That bill got further, making it to the Senate floor, but ran out of time before the Senate could take a vote.
Since then we've incorporated elements of SB 50 into bills that did become law. But we still needed to do the basic work of making it easier to build homes near our train and major bus stations.
We overcame enormous opposition from NIMBYs at every turn. Each vote in committee and on the floor was close. But YIMBYs like you stepped up and put in the work to win.
You made this victory possible. YIMBYs sent thousands of emails, made hundreds of calls, and went to legislative offices across our state – in the Capitol and in your own districts – to show legislators and their staff why SB 79 is urgently-needed: Both to tackle our state’s housing shortage and affordability crisis, and to chip away at the climate crisis.
There's just one more step: we need Governor Gavin Newsom to sign the bill. We haven't had any indication he’s opposed. But we also know that NIMBYs are going to flood his offices with emails and calls in a desperate, last-ditch effort to stop SB 79 from becoming law. We're taking no chances.
Will you send a message urging Governor Newsom to sign SB 79?
Thank you so much for everything you did to make this victory possible!
