Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel visited Edison Middle School in Erie County to hold an assembly for students preparing to take on the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge. The challenge began this week for more than 182,000 participating students in 709 schools across Ohio. Every student can win when the goal is personal growth.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Director Mary Mertz celebrated [ [link removed] ] the opening of the new welcome center at Lake Loramie State Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new space will serve as a hub for visitors, offering sweeping views of the lake and spillway while sharing the park’s natural and cultural history.

“Lake Loramie State Park has a rich history, and the new welcome center tells the story of this wonderful outdoor space,” said Governor DeWine. “Today we were joined by Minster Local Schools' third-grade class, and it really highlights the importance of opening buildings like this to allow students and Ohioans of all ages to learn more about Ohio’s great outdoors and experience it in new and meaningful ways.”

Lt. Governor Tressel and Ted Ginn Jr. talked with hundreds of students at Kenston Middle School in Geauga County who are taking part in the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.

Governor DeWine announcing two new partnerships with the Cincinnati Police Department. [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine joined [ [link removed] ] state, local, and federal officials in Cincinnati to announce two new partnerships with the Cincinnati Police Department focused on protecting the public and holding violent criminals accountable. 

At the state level, the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) will soon begin working in direct partnership with the Cincinnati Police Department to conduct violent crime reduction initiatives within the city. The data-driven initiatives will use intelligence from Cincinnati's Crime Gun Intelligence Center to focus on hot-spot areas with the highest crime rates.

OSHP will also provide aerial overwatch support for the law enforcement teams on the ground. OSHP's Aviation Unit responds to more than 1,000 calls for support from local law enforcement agencies statewide each year. In Cincinnati, aerial crews will focus on supporting the crime reduction initiatives through criminal suspect searches and vehicle pursuit mitigation.

The Ohio Investigative Unit, which enforces Ohio's alcohol laws, will focus on taking enforcement action on those who illegally carry weapons and commit other crimes on the premises of liquor establishments in high-crime areas. 

"We've dispatched this state support to other cities in the past, and we've seen great results," said Governor DeWine. "We are confident that, through this partnership effort, these violent crime reduction initiatives will make a difference in Cincinnati."

9/11 Flag Lowering Order [ [link removed] ]

In honor of those killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Governor DeWine ordered [ [link removed] ] the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio to be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Ohio from sunrise to sunset on September 11, 2025. 

Governor DeWine asked that all Ohioans observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. to honor the innocent lives lost as a result of the terrorist attacks.

Charlie Kirk Flag Lowering [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine ordered [ [link removed] ] that, in accordance with the President of the United States of America, in honoring the life of Charlie Kirk, the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio until 6 P.M. on September 14, 2025.

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that he has agreed to a request made by the Secretary of the Army through the National Guard Bureau that the Ohio National Guard continue supporting the District of Columbia National Guard until Nov. 30, 2025.

While some of the Ohio National Guard members will be rotated, Ohio will continue to provide 150 military police to carry out presence patrols.  None of these military police members are currently serving as law enforcement officers in the state of Ohio.

Lt. Governor Tressel attended the re-dedication of Hilliard's First Responders Park to pay respect to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor how we as a nation came together in the face of tragedy.

Lt. Governor Tressel joined the Ohio Department of Public Safety at it's annual 9/11 Climb, a tribute to the 412 first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Lt. Governor Tressel joined the Gibsonburg Community to memorialize the tragic events of September 11, 2001 at the town's Public Safety Service Memorial, which is home to a section of the Main Antenna Mast that was atop of the North Tower of the World Trade Center prior to 9/11.

Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] a new statewide initiative designed to enroll more Ohio children immediately after birth in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio. Studies have shown that books in the home, such as the books the Imagination Library provides to children from birth to age five, and more reading can increase Kindergarten Readiness Assessment scores.

First Lady DeWine made the announcement that signing up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program is now part of the Ohio birth certificate paperwork process during the 2025 First Lady’s Luncheon. Governor DeWine also participated in the program, along with country music legend Zac Brown. 

“Research has shown that 80 percent of a child’s brain is developed by age three, so we want to get books into the home as early as possible in order to have the most impact,” said First Lady DeWine. “I am thrilled to announce that now, as part of the Ohio birth certificate process, moms and dads will learn about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio and have the chance to sign up at the hospital before they head home with their newborns. One simple checkmark will give Ohio’s little ones a great start in life.”
