Folks,
As I travel across Virginia and talk to voters and constituents – there’s something that comes up over and over again:
Just about everyone is impacted in some way by Donald Trump’s gutting of Medicaid, the skyrocketing cost of health care, or the reckless cuts to our nation’s premier medical research.
And let me tell you: It’s personal for me too.
During the last years of my mother’s life, we watched her slow and difficult fight with Alzheimer’s disease. For 11 years she lived with the disease, and nine of those years, she couldn't speak.
------------------
Frankly, it’s something I don’t talk about often because it was just an awful disease and a difficult time for my family and me.
But it’s a reality far too many Americans know well – and it’s why I was disgusted and heartbroken to watch the DOGE bros freeze, delay and cut funding for lifesaving dementia research.
Lifesaving Alzheimer’s Research Delayed by Trump Funding Cuts:
The Trump administration is freezing, delaying and revoking funding for dementia research, setting back discoveries of potential future treatment
– Scientific American
How many years of progress did we lose by Donald Trump’s reckless administration?
How many more families will have to go through what my family went through?
And when will enough be enough for my Republican colleagues? When will they stand up to the stupid, harmful policies of the Trump administration?
------------------
Every day in the Senate, I am fighting back against these dangerous policies – introducing legislation to repeal the health care provisions in the ‘Big, Ugly Bill’ and permanently extend the Affordable Care Act’s tax credits; fighting to expand health care and benefits for Virginia’s nearly 700,000 veterans; and speaking out about the administration’s cuts to health and science research.
And I’ve pushed my friends across the aisle to vote with their conscience and stand up to Trump’s reckless agenda. Unfortunately, too many of my Republican colleagues would rather cave to Trump than stand up for their constituents.
It’s why we’ve got to take back the Senate next year. It’s why I’m fighting like hell to hold onto this seat for Democrats next year and doing all that I can to support Democrats in Virginia and in critical races across the country.
Thank you for being in this fight with us.
More soon,
Mark Warner
