Yesterday, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar went on Mehdi Hasan’s show to denounce the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk.
She was clear: violence is never the answer. And while she condemned the shooting, she also didn’t shy away from critiquing some of Kirk’s most extreme and dangerous views.
Lauren Boebert’s response? Purposefully misconstruing Omar’s words and launching a racist attack on social media: “I understand that in Somalia, where you come from and would do well to go back to, this isn’t a thing.”
This type of rhetoric just pours gasoline on the fire of America’s rising tensions. When a Congresswoman like Lauren Boebert spews hate, those words carry consequences—normalizing division, legitimizing violence, and making our country less safe.
I believe in free speech, wholeheartedly. No one should be met with violence for their beliefs. No one should be shot for sparking debate. And neither should anyone be told to “go back” or be deported for their beliefs.
