John,

Trump just announced that he will be sending the National Guard to Memphis next, continuing the attack on Black America that started with deployments to the streets of Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.. And the threat remains of further federal takeovers of other Black-led cities like Chicago and New Orleans.

We’ve seen ICE conduct immigration raids across the country that indiscriminately target people by the color of their skin — after Trump’s disastrous budget bill allocated $75 billion in additional funding to the agency, making it the nation’s highest-funded law enforcement agency and largest domestic police force. One that seeks to establish a permanent surveillance state and answers only to him.

John, Trump won’t stop with Black-led cities or immigrants. These attacks against our communities are not isolated campaigns of terror. This is a dress rehearsal for authoritarian overreach — a deliberate test of the public’s limits to dictatorial dominance that he seeks to expand to every Democratic-led city and every marginalized group.

The increasing militarization of police and escalations of hyper-surveillance, detention and racial profiling endanger us all. We must stand together to show this administration that the American people will oppose him at every step — join Color Of Change in pledging to fight back against Trump’s attacks on Black and brown Americans and demand safety for us all!

Federal takeovers of our cities and immigration raids in our neighborhoods are not about crime or public safety. This is about attacking Black and brown bodies and cities led by Black mayors with displays of force as part of the Trump administration’s neo-segregationist agenda designed to dismantle our rights and drag our country back into the past.

For over sixty years, the primary response to crime in communities of color has been overpolicing, over-incarceration, and over-criminalization. The evidence is clear and overwhelming: this approach has failed to create safety, instead perpetuating cycles of trauma and distrust and the very cycle of crime it seeks to disrupt.

Don’t let Trump and the media deceive you. Black elected officials across the country have made historic progress to reduce crime with community investments and comprehensive violence prevention plans — efforts that Trump has actively undermined by cutting critical funding.

Boots on the ground and surveillance drones in the sky do not build safer, healthier communities. Color Of Change, community advocates, civil rights, and racial justice organizations have been demanding the same kinds of investments seen in our safest communities. We need the funding to support solutions that are proven to promote public safety — adequate schools, mental health support, healthcare, drug treatment, good-paying jobs, and clean communities.

Every community deserves investments to promote true public safety — not federal troops and masked immigration agents sent to terrorize our neighborhoods. Sign on to join Color Of Change in fighting back against Trump’s attacks on Black cities!

We will continue to demand that elected leaders across the country leverage this moment of resistance into a moment of transformation: by investing heavily in restorative justice, violence interruption, living wages, and the social services that truly build safe and prosperous communities.

We will join together to keep us safe.

Until Justice Is Real,

Color Of Change
