This week, Howard students staged a powerful walkout to protest Trump’s federal takeover of D.C. They were joined by students from Georgetown, George Washington, and American University to demand that their schools resist cooperation with the illegal deployment of the National Guard and ICE.
And while Trump’s so-called “crime emergency occupation” technically expired at midnight on Wednesday, the danger is far from over. Congress is still serving up D.C. on a platter, keeping federal forces and over-policing in place, and denying our communities the right to real safety and freedom. That danger isn’t abstract, considering new threats to HBCU campuses fueled by MAGA hysteria rising in response to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, though absolutely no evidence points to such a justification.
These threats are designed to intimidate students and suppress their voices at the very moment they’re demanding to be heard. |
