Dear John,
Folks, before I start our weekly newsletter, I want to address the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk and what acts like this – including those recently here in Minnesota – say about our current political environment. This event was horrific and an absolute tragedy. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones – especially his wife and two young children he leaves behind.
We cannot continue to live this way. And we cannot normalize murder based on our political differences. We must come together as a nation to condemn political violence. It is going to take all of us to begin to turn down the temperature on our political discourse and bring civility back to our nation.
And while we work toward that goal, my work in Congress on behalf of Minnesotans must go on. This week, I introduced my No Social Media at School Act – common-sense legislation that would require social media companies to block access to their platforms on K-12 campuses during school hours. This would put the onus on social media companies, not teachers and administrators, to keep kids off social media at school.
We all know how negatively social media is impacting our kids’ mental health, attention span and ability to focus. Kids should be learning and socializing at school – not scrolling on their phones.
And while teachers try their best to create a safe and engaging environment for our students, it can’t just be on them. It’s time we hold Big Tech accountable. Look, if they can use your location to target ads and Snapchat filters down to the square foot – they can implement this effectively.
You can watch my interview with Morning Joe on the bill here.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Standing up to Republican cuts to Medicaid
Republicans enacted the largest Medicaid cut in American history.
I introduced a bill with Rep. Adam Gray to reverse those cuts and make the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits permanent.
I refuse to stand by idly while they make Americans sicker, poorer and worse off.

Thanking the hospitals who received Annunciation School shooting victims
The courageous staff at Children’s Minnesota received some of the victims from the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church. From the bottom of my heart – thank you to each and every one of the doctors, nurses, support staff and more who treated patients, sat with their families in waiting rooms and acted with compassion in the face of unthinkable tragedy.
Fighting against the Department of Education’s cuts
This Administration’s Education Secretary Linda McMahon is now making it even harder for working families to put their kids through school.
They’re selling folks on the “American Dream,” while withholding TRIO grants that make it possible for kids to seek higher education.
Another heartless move by this billionaire-first Admin.
Advocating for fair pay for WNBA players
For a league that’s supposed to be “lifting women up,” the WNBA has failed to put their money where their mouth is.
This week, I stood with the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Women's National Basketball Players Association to demand fair pay for women athletes.
You've heard it from me before, and you’ll keep hearing it: pay them what they deserve.
You can read more about the event here.
Behind the scenes:
Well folks, if you saw Monday’s game you’ll agree with me when I say: what a hell of a fourth quarter. After visiting training camp in August, it was great to see JJ McCarthy in action in his NFL debut. It’s exciting to have the youngest quarterback in the NFL making a name for himself right here at home. I was so excited about Monday’s win that I wore my jersey to work the next day. The Illinois Representatives weren’t too happy with me... but I had to gloat! Skol!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
