It doesn’t matter if it’s a busy week or a slow week: the Republican voter suppression and election subversion war machine grinds on. Even as the nation faces the prospect of a government shutdown and the tragic results of increased political violence, Republicans continue their efforts to undermine free and fair elections in 2026.

 

In Missouri, for example, the state’s GOP legislative majority worked around the clock to redraw an already gerrymandered map into an even more grotesque partisan gerrymander. They are not doing this to meet the demands of their constituents. Instead, their motivation to destroy a congressional district centered in Kansas City is driven by a request made by Donald Trump.

 

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice continues its quest to build a nationwide voter file that includes the confidential personal information of every single American voter. For months, Democracy Docket has covered this story with tenacity and grit. This week, it was confirmed that this sensitive information will be shared with the Department of Homeland Security.
