John, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes here.

In March, I told the Wall Street Journal that I believed the Trump administration was attempting a coup.

Six months later, the evidence is even clearer.

I don't use that term lightly. I know it's a serious allegation. But what else do you call it when someone willfully disobeys multiple federal court orders and multiple judges? What do you call it when a person takes power from Congress and hands it to unelected cronies and billionaires like Elon Musk?

And what do you call it when he dismantles entire federal government departments? Or unilaterally applies tariffs to our foreign allies? Or pardons the January 6th insurrectionists? 

Well, I'm calling it a coup. And I'm standing up against it.

I've filed over 25 lawsuits against this administration and won temporary restraining orders immediately. When Trump disobeys a court order I've won against him, I drag him back to court and force the ruling to take effect.

But this isn't just about courtrooms. It's about taking our case directly to the people.

I’ve held 12 town hall events since January, and I keep hearing from Arizonans about the damage this administration is doing — from federal workers who'd been laid off, to vital state and local services having their funds cut, to people living in fear because of the color of their skin or the language they speak at home. 

Someone has to try to stop him. And that someone is us.
