Fellow Republicans,
Charlie Kirk’s assassin has been apprehended but the attack on conservative speech continues to haunt our nation.
Charlie Kirk was a happy warrior who perhaps more than any American embodied our nation’s belief in free speech. In the killing of Charlie Kirk, we must not allow the Left to destroy the First Amendment which we all hold dear. Charlie was not only a powerful advocate for Republicans in Illinois and across the nation—but he was also a fearless voice who understood how to speak to the next generation about liberty, responsibility, and America’s promise.

Charlie’s gift was his ability to take big ideas and make them accessible to young people. He challenged them to think, to question, and to engage in the great debates of our time. Through his tireless work, he gave countless students the confidence to take their place in the public square. He showed them that citizenship is not a spectator sport but a responsibility we all share. For many, he was the first mentor who helped them believe they could make a difference.
It is precisely in moments of grief like this that we are reminded of what unites us as Americans. Instead, political leaders and media voices on the Far Left rushed to cast blame and score points. Governor Pritzker, for example, was quick to suggest that President Trump’s rhetoric caused this act of violence! This is the same governor who once declared Republicans “cannot know a moment of peace.” To make such accusations at a time of national mourning is not only hypocritical, but also profoundly divisive. Incitement of political violence must end now.

When bullets replace ballots and vengeance replaces debate, we all lose. Charlie himself understood this danger. He believed that persuasion, not intimidation, was the path to winning hearts and minds. He spent his career where young Americans could encounter new ideas and wrestle with them in freedom. This legacy should be honored—not extinguished in the aftermath of his death.
Charlie Kirk’s life and advocacy was a testament to the enduring strength of America’s founding principles. He reminded us that faith, freedom, and courage are living principles that can guide us forward. He awakened a generation to the responsibilities of self-government and showed them how to serve something greater than themselves.
As we grieve his loss with his wife Erika and their young children, let us also take to heart the example Charlie set. Even in this time of loss, his vision stands as a beacon of hope: that America is still worth defending, and that her future will be shaped by men and women with the courage to lead.
