Friend -
Earlier this week, I traveled to Washington, DC to participate in a roundtable discussion hosted by Democrats on the U.S. House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs - "Profit Over Quality: Examining the Effects of Private Equity on Veteran Healthcare".
This is an issue that hits close to home.
The collapse and closure of the Crozer Health System after years under private equity ownership has had a devastating impact on our community.
What happened with Crozer is not an isolated incident.
Hospitals owned by private equity are being saddled with debt and dismantled across the country, leaving communities without access to healthcare.
Along with my Democratic colleagues, I am working to advance legislation to address the devastating impact of private equity in healthcare and hospital closures in Pennsylvania, adding necessary safeguards, prohibiting for-profit ownership of hospitals and health systems in Pennsylvania, requirements around notifications of closure, and requiring additional oversight by the Attorney General.
