Members from the Orbis team were in Arequipa, Peru last week planning an upcoming 2026 project of the Flying Eye Hospital.
Some 1.1 million Peruvians are living with blindness or visual impairment out of a population of only 33 million.

This will be the first time we are bringing the plane to the enchanting city of Arequipa in decades. The Peru team is especially thrilled to welcome the plane to the southern region, which will begin an earnest expansion of our long-term project to this part of the country.
During the visit, our volunteer faculty will mentor and teach local eye health professionals. By building on their skills, these professionals will be better equipped to treat patients with cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus, and other sight-stealing eye conditions in their communities
