Oldham's time is now: Spindles redevelopment wins top innovation award

Oldham Council and the team behind the ground-breaking Spindles redevelopment have scooped the British Council of Offices’ (BCO) Northern Innovation Award.

The trophy was presented inside the brand-new office space to Leader of Oldham Council Cllr Arooj Shah and Chief Executive Shelley Kipling by representatives from construction company Willmott Dixon, architects AEW, Hive, Gleeds and interior designers SpaceInvader.

The Spindles has been recognised as a benchmark for reimagining town centre spaces—'transforming a struggling 1990s shopping centre' into a 450,000 sq development, housing flexible modern offices. It will also be home to a new indoor market and food hall, event space and heritage archive.

The BCO judges praised its “ground-breaking, adaptive reuse” and a "transformative model for urban regeneration."

Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, said: “Oldham is a town on the up and our time is now, investing in our existing buildings while creating modern spaces that will increase jobs, and drive people into the town centre.

A new chapter for Foxdenton Hall

We're thrilled to announce, in partnership with Chadderton Together, a development grant of £228,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The funding will be used for the first phase of the restoration of the much-loved Grade II listed Foxdenton Hall building in Foxdenton Park, Chadderton.

This initial support from the Heritage Fund will allow the project to progress with its plans before detailed proposals are then considered for a full delivery grant award totalling £2.27m as part of the £3.5m project.

When complete, the historic building will provide a community hub with a local heritage attraction, facilities for schools, and provide much needed accommodation for small enterprises.

Doorstep visits across Oldham to check voter details

Every year, we must check that the details on the electoral register are correct. That’s why we’re getting in touch with every household in Oldham.

The ‘door knock’ stage marks the final phase of the canvass from Thursday 11 September to Sunday 29 September.

Our canvassers will visit homes that have not replied to earlier letters or forms to check details. They will also collect details of any new residents.

All canvass staff will always carry an Oldham Council photo ID badge, which they will show show at the door. They will also have forms with them to fill in.

Please remember, canvassers will never come inside your home and all visits are done at the doorstep.

We are also making telephone calls to some homes where we have contact details, but have not yet had a reply to our letter.
