Friend,
Today, we pause to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the families who still grieve, and we honor the courage of the first responders who risked everything to save others.
For them, “Never Forget” has never been a slogan. It is lived every day in the pain, illness, and loss so many first responders and survivors still endure.
That’s why it is unconscionable that Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have moved to slash funding for the World Trade Center Health Program — the program that provides medical care and support to the very people who ran into danger when America needed them most.
Stripping funding from 9/11 heroes dishonors their sacrifice and breaks our nation’s promise to them. I refuse to let that go unanswered.
I’m fighting in Congress to fully fund the health care and benefits our first responders and survivors deserve.
“Never Forget” must mean action. It must mean keeping our word to the people who gave everything for us. Together, we can hold Trump and his Republican allies accountable — and ensure our heroes are never left behind.
In solidarity,
Eric Swalwell
