After spending August at home in San Diego, I’m now back in D.C. working to pass a budget and avoid a disastrous shutdown. With only a few weeks until that deadline, I’m keeping my focus on continuing to sound the alarm about our national debt and deficit.

Especially with Trump and the GOP’s Big Ugly Bill set to blow up the national debt by $4 trillion (yes, trillion), the outlook is quickly becoming even more dire. We need commonsense, bipartisan fiscal responsibility more than ever, and rest assured that I’ll continue to lead that work.

Read the full update below for more details about our work so far this year, and make sure to follow the campaign on Facebook, X, and Instagram to stay up-to-date.

I’m looking forward to what the rest of this year will bring. As always, I’m grateful to have your support.

Epstein Files
With public pressure mounting regarding the release of information regarding Jeffrey Epstein and his associates, Scott is amplifying these demands for transparency. We can’t let the Trump Administration continue to provide evasive answers – the victims deserve justice, and the public deserves answers. Ultimately, this fight is not about politics. It’s about whether survivors finally get the truth and whether the powerful are ever held to the same standard as everyone else.

Tijuana River Valley (TRV) Sewage Crisis in the Spotlight
Scott has been working tirelessly to secure the funding needed to address the cross-border sewage crisis that has plagued our region for years. After working alongside the San Diego Congressional delegation to secure $650 million for the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC), which is enough to fully repair & expand the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plan (SBIWTP), Scott is still working to secure additional funding and long-term solutions to protect our communities’ health. This month, a new study was published showing that the sewage crisis is polluting not just our water, but also our air. Our community can’t afford any further delay in action.

Tackling the Housing Crisis & Supporting Public Transit
It’s no secret that our country is experiencing an affordable housing crisis that impacts nearly every aspect of our lives and the economy, especially here in California. Scott recently reintroduced a bipartisan bill to remedy this problem by facilitating the construction of more housing near transit centers. On top of increased access to affordable homes, this proposed investment in public transportation also serves to cut carbon emissions by growing ridership and getting cars off the road. If we’re going to tackle poverty, boost our economies, and help families everywhere to thrive, we must address housing affordability – and that’s what Scott is doing.

Fighting for Transparency
The Big Ugly Bill guts clean energy programs that would save families money and instead gives handouts to Big Oil, sticking hardworking Americans with higher bills. While Republicans prop up outdated, expensive fossil fuels while sabotaging the affordable clean energy future we need, Scott is fighting back. Last week, he led the New Democrats in introducing budget amendments to hold the GOP accountable for their betrayal of working Americans – and Republicans blocked every single one. With another shutdown deadline looming just a few weeks away, Scott isn’t stopping here. He’s continuing to put forward commonsense, bipartisan proposals and stand up for working families.

Toni Atkins Kick-Off
California’s gubernatorial race is picking up steam. Last month, Toni Atkins opened her new campaign headquarters here in Mission Hills! Scott served alongside Toni on the San Diego City Council for 8 years, and worked with her many times since. Not only is Toni a trailblazer, but she also has a proven record of uplifting our state. Toni is the best person for the job, and California will be well-served under her leadership. Scott was one of the earliest endorsers of Toni’s campaign, and he’s still standing strong behind her.

Discussing Public Health with the Local Medical Community
While Scott was home last month, he hosted a roundtable discussion with Rep. Sara Jacobs and leaders in San Diego’s medical community. The GOP’s Big Ugly Bill will not only kick millions of Americans off their health insurance and force hospitals to close, but it will also worsen our country’s physician shortage by putting medical school out of reach for many highly qualified students. Scott is working to fight the impending public health disaster and stand up to the Trump Administration’s attacks on health care.

Highlighting the Harm of Tariffs on San Diego Businesses and Consumers
Last month, Scott and Rep. Jacobs also hosted a press conference highlighting the damage President Trump’s tariffs are already causing, from sowing economic chaos, to raising prices for hardworking Americans, and weakening the U.S.’s global standing. Scott is pushing back in Congress to protect businesses and families, and keeping up the pressure on Trump to end his reckless trade war.
