Trump’s latest attack on voting rights is a plan for an executive order
mandating Voter ID nationwide. “Voter ID must be part of every single
vote. NO EXCEPTIONS!” he ranted on Truth Social.^1
Republicans are deadset on rigging the 2026 midterms by making it harder
for people to vote, spreading lies about so-called “non-citizen voting,”
extreme gerrymandering, potentially ending mail-in voting, and ramping up
fears about troops and federal agents patrolling the polls.^2 The SAVE Act
could directly disenfranchise 20 million people.^3
The House has already passed the anti-democratic SAVE Act, fueled by
anti-immigrant rhetoric and Trump’s Big Lie. Our Senators must stand firm
against Trump’s attacks on our elections and oppose the SAVE Act.

The SAVE Act would force people to prove their citizenship with specific
documents before voting — a measure that would create a significant
barrier for many before they cast a ballot, especially for the roughly 20
million people without ready access to the documents that the bill would
require.^4
The GOP’s anti-immigrant propaganda has fueled this voter suppression
push, attempt to rig elections, and militarization of Democratic cities.
In response to Trump saying he will deploy troops to Chicago, Illinois
Governor J.B. Pritzker said, “This is about the President and his
complicit lackey, Stephen Miller, searching for ways to lay the groundwork
to circumvent our democracy, militarize our cities, and end elections.^5
Trump spread disinformation about rigged elections for years. Now, he’s
actually trying to rig the midterms so he can keep hold of power and
continue his authoritarian takeover of America. Our lawmakers must stand
against the extreme voter suppression SAVE Act and stop it from getting to
Trump’s desk.
