Last week, Governor Josh Green called on Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services — and also announced that Hawaii is joining California, Oregon, and Washington in the new West Coast Health Alliance.

On Thursday of last week, Governor Green published an opinion piece on CNN.com [#] calling for Secretary Kennedy to step down.

“As a father, a physician, and a governor, it is my responsibility to protect every community in my state—especially the most vulnerable—from threats to their health and safety, and to advocate for the public health of the entire country,” Governor Green wrote. “That is why I am making an appeal to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Mr. Kennedy’s actions as our country’s chief public health officer are not just irresponsible and misguided—they are dangerous. I urge him to step aside now before more damage is done to our healthcare system, more lives are put at risk, and more American children die as a result of his policies.”

The same day, Governor Green appeared on Laura Coates Live on CNN, repeating his call for Mr. Kennedy to resign and discussing the public health consequences of his actions as Secretary of HHS.

“The department is in free fall, the CDC is in disarray,” Governor Green said. “He’s destroying the vaccination program… He is dismantling research. That will set us back on our ability to treat cancer. That will set us back on our ability to fight bird flu. All of these things are disasters going forward.”

Governor Green also announced that Hawaii would join California, Oregon, and Washington in the new West Coast Health Alliance to help safeguard scientific expertise by ensuring that public health policies in its member states are informed by trusted scientists, clinicians, and other public health leaders, and to work toward immunization guidelines informed by respected national medical organizations.

“We are in a time of crisis as far as public health goes,” Governor Green said. “Right now the current HHS administration led by Mr. Kennedy is in disarray, and it's causing a lot of concern across the country. We need to have good science, based on the best medical and public health data and evidence. So my good friends, the three governors from the West Coast, formed this alliance, and it made a lot of sense for Hawaii to join them. We're going to try to guide the country in a way that helps us protect lives.”
