John,

Today, we remember September 11, 2001.

We remember the nearly 3,000 individuals who lost their lives in a cruel act of terrorism. The mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters who left for work that Tuesday morning, not knowing it would be their last.

We remember the families who carry these losses today, and every day.

We remember the extreme acts of courage from our firefighters, climbing the stairs of the Twin Towers, not knowing if they would walk back down. The police officers who stayed to help people escape, and the EMTs, nurses, and doctors, who rushed into the debris to treat the wounded.

We remember the everyday Americans who became heroes in moments that demanded everything of them. We remember the passengers of Flight 93 who chose sacrifice over surrender.

We remember the unity and resilience that defined our great country in the face of unimaginable tragedy. In the hours and days that followed, we saw Americans at our very best. Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming family, and a nation that refused to be broken by hate.

We remember that spirit of solidarity and the lessons it taught us to live rooted in kindness, in service to one another, and the unshakeable belief that love will triumph over fear.

Twenty-four years later, we carry their memory forward, not just in how we remember that day, but in how we choose to live every day since.

We will never forget.
