Dear friend,

Today, we honor the 3,000 lives tragically taken from us in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. We stand with the survivors and mourn all who were lost that day.

While we mark this solemn anniversary, we must also remember the heroic efforts of first responders and the unity of our nation through expressions of patriotism, spontaneous memorials and public service initiatives which continue to bind us together so many years later.

The terrorist attacks of September 11th forever changed the role of the United States in international policy. In the wake of the attacks, our country implemented significant changes to enhance national security and address terrorism. Through increased international cooperation, we forged partnerships with other nations to share intelligence and address the global threat of terrorism.

We must work to strengthen democracy around the world to combat and stifle these inherently anti-democratic terrorist organizations. In honor of those who lost their lives on September 11th, let us remember the importance of using the power and resources of our nation to fortify democracy around the world.

To memorialize the lives lost, we can continue to support the families whose loved ones passed away on 9/11. In Congress, I have supported legislation that protects health care for survivors and their families. I am a cosponsor of the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act of 2025 which would provide permanent funding for the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) to ensure it remains adequately funded to cover health care for 9/11 responders and survivors until the program expires in 2090. This legislation also increases funding for data collection on 9/11 related conditions and expands mental health care for program members.

Additionally, I co-sponsored the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act of 2025. This bill would expand federal support for the families of firefighters and other first responders who pass away or become permanently disabled from service-related cancers. No one affected by this tragedy should have to worry about access to health care.

Today, cities and towns across the 5th District gathered in remembrance and to pay tribute to CT residents who lost their lives in the attacks. We attended the Memorial Ceremony hosted by the September 11th, 2001, Memorial Maintenance Committee where first responders, and residents all came together to honor the memories of the fallen.

As we mark twenty-four years since the horrific attacks of September 11th, 2001, I urge you to take a moment today to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who demonstrated extraordinary courage amidst the unimaginable. We will never forget.
