Legislative Update – September 11, 2025
Dear neighbors,
This week, I joined Tree Trust at Spruce Park in South St. Paul to help plant trees funded by legislation I authored last session. Investments in tree planting programs like this help address emerald ash borer and restore our urban canopy. I’m especially glad to see this funding quickly put to use in our local community.
Hansen Tree Trust
The City is partnering with Tree Trust to offer residents low-cost trees this fall. Each tree is $40, with a limit of one per household. Orders are open through October 3, 2025. Trees must be planted on private property. Planting on boulevards or public property is not allowed.
Pickup will take place on Saturday, October 18, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the West St. Paul Sports Complex (1650 Oakdale Ave, St. Paul, MN 55118). View available species and place your order here [ [link removed] ].

Supporting Inver Hills Community College
I also attended the ribbon-cutting for the Technology and Business Building at Inver Hills Community College. This new building helps support the IT, STEM, Paralegal, Business, and Accounting programs.
By improving our community colleges, we can ensure that more Minnesotans have the skills and tools they need not just to survive, but to thrive, and I was proud to help secure funding for this project.
Hansen Inver Hills
Inver Hills is also in the process of renaming Inver Hills and DCTC as part of the merger process. After seeking community feedback two key themes especially guided the naming choices: A fresh new name instead of referencing existing names, and dropping “community” and “technical” in the name.
Additionally, the Minnesota State system requires any new college name to include “Minnesota,” “State,” or “Minnesota State.” Based on these requirements and guidelines, six name options have been brought forward for the merged college. We would sincerely appreciate your thoughts on these naming options through this survey. [ [link removed] ]
