John, the General Assembly is voting today on a bill which would gouge you to pay for Duke Energy’s coal ash mess.
They could vote in the next few hours, and your legislators are on the fence, so we need you to send them a quick note right now!

John, Duke Energy’s rate hike bill should have been dead on arrival, but it could get a vote on the House floor as soon as today. So I need you to act fast!
Tell your representative you don’t want Duke to stick you with the cost of their coal ash mess >> [link removed]
Duke is trying to line their own pockets at your expense! This bill could charge you more for up to three years at a time in order to boost Duke’s annual profits by millions of dollars — on top of the billions they already earn.
Then your money will pay for coal ash cleanup instead of Duke dipping into their profits or making shareholders pay.
Send your representative a message: you won’t stand for this!

Duke Energy wants to raise John xxxxxx’s power bill and make you pay for their coal ash mess.
Is that what you want, John?
Then time is of the essence! Duke’s bill passed the Senate, and is in the House Finance Committee as we speak.

John, you need to take action now!
Duke Energy’s crooked bill to pin you with the cost of their coal ash mess has passed the Senate, and now goes to the House.
Tell your representative to make polluters pay, not you! >> [link removed]
Senators have already fallen for Duke’s dirty tricks. Now it’s up to our representatives. We can’t let Duke inflate their profits by raising your rates five years at a time to cover up the real cost of coal ash pollution.
Thanks for stepping up, John,

Duke is pushing a bill to hike your power bill years into the future. ALERT YOUR LEGISLATORS >> [link removed]
John, I need you to act fast!
Under longstanding law, Duke has to go before the state Utilities Commission every time they want to raise your rates. Not satisfied with their already soaring profits, Duke wrote a bill and got their cronies in the legislature to fast-track it.
The bill could let them raise rates up to five years at a time, letting them off the hook for justifying the actual cost of projects.
Duke’s president said they would use this power to stick John xxxxxx with the cost of cleaning up their coal ash mess.

In other states that give utilities multi-year rate hikes, those utilities have padded their profits at the expense of ratepayers like you. When they come in under budget, they get to pocket your money.
North Carolina stands out for its consumer protections, but this bill would throw that out the window.
This would be the biggest change to ratemaking in over a century, with no involvement from stakeholders like NCLCV or you.
