Friend,
|
A greedy segment of the pork industry is working to overturn Prop 12, the strongest farm animal protection law in the country that we helped to pass in California. Their lobbyists are spreading lies as part of their attack—all to confuse the public and convince Congress that animal welfare laws will hurt the farming industry. But we’re fighting back!
|
We need you to know fact from fiction as we fight to protect Prop 12 and stop the pork industry’s Save Our Bacon Act and Food Security and Farm Protection Act from destroying our progress for farm animals!
|
MYTH #1:
Only left-wing California cares about Prop 12 and the farm animals it protects.
FACT:
Concerns about cruel factory farming conditions are shared across the country and across political divides. Eighty percent of voters, Republicans, Independents and Democrats, support passing state laws like Prop 12 to protect farm animals and consumers in their states.
|
MYTH #2:
Confining mother pigs in gestation crates is better for their health.
FACT:
The cruel and extreme confinement of mother pigs in gestation crates so small they can’t turn around leads to a host of physical and psychological problems, like extreme stress, physical pain and even self-injury as pigs bite at the bars in futile attempts to escape. Animals on factory farms deserve better.
|
MYTH #3:
The Save Our Bacon Act is much narrower than previous legislation and will only impact a few animal protection laws.
FACT:
Just like dangerous bills we’ve fought before, the broad language in the Save Our Bacon Act could upend hundreds of state and local laws and block state and local governments’ ability to protect the health and welfare of animals and people, too.

Lobbyists want you to believe that Prop 12 harms the farming industry—and they’re working overtime to sell their story to Congress. Now that you know fact from myth, we need you to take immediate action to help bring the truth to Congress. Before it’s too late for vulnerable farm animals, will you please urge your legislators to stop all attacks on Prop 12 and the vulnerable farm animals it protects?
