Hi team,

Recently, two of California's oil refineries suddenly announced that they're closing.

This sounds like a great step forward in our state's transition away from fossil fuels. And it is—but it's also complicated.

Our state is currently transitioning from dirty fossil fuels to clean energy, and Big Oil sees the writing on the wall. So they're closing refineries without enough warning to plan for costs ahead of time: creating supply issues, spiking gas prices, and selling fossil fuels as the 'only solution'.

We know that Californians support a clean energy transition that protects workers and communities—we just need to remind California leaders to hold strong on the plan. Add your name to the list of environmental advocates who believe lawmakers shouldn't cave to Big Oil's pressure tactics.

Big Oil shouldn't be able to shut down their refineries with no notice, leaving their workers suddenly unemployed and leaving communities to foot the cleanup bill.

We need California lawmakers to step up and make sure our state has a plan for the transition away from fossil fuels that protects communities, the environment, workers, and the climate:

1. Transparency and Accountability: Require refineries to report the cost of cleanup before they close to make sure those costs fall on refiners, not taxpayers.
2. Price and Market Stability: Fund and ensure affordable access to electric vehicles statewide with investments in clean transportation infrastructure.
3. Worker-Led Transitions: Support refinery workers through an oil and gas worker fund, with long-term investments in clean energy union jobs.

It's time for California to transition away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy in a way that's just, thoughtful, and community-led. Sign your name to tell lawmakers that it's time to take action to protect our wallets, our health, and our future.

Thanks for being part of this movement,

Melissa Romero
