John — My opponent, Karen Handel, was caught on tape this weekend dismissing why I do this work on gun violence. Karen said that losing my son to gun violence is a “personal” issue. One of her supporters spoke about my story and said I should “get off it” because I’m “not the only one who has a tragic story” to which Karen responds, “Exactly, exactly -- that’s right”  John, I’m tired. Plain and simple. I’m tired of these baseless attacks on my family. I am asking you, if you are as mad as I am, to channel your anger into action. I know that issues of healthcare and economic security and gun violence are important, and that’s why I advocate and legislate for them every single day. I hoped that it went without saying -- but apparently it does not. John, I did not ask to get involved in gun safety. I stood up to fight for our families after my son was murdered -- and I stood up to run for office after the tragedy in Parkland, Florida. I watched our legislators promise to take action, yet none came. So I decided to run for office myself.
