Housing Relief to Prevent Eviction and Foreclosure Crisis
As workers and families across the country struggle as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked with my colleagues in Congress to pass H.R. 7301, the Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act of 2020. This critical bill provides essential relief for our nation’s renters and expands the moratorium on evictions and foreclosures to protect those struggling on the brink of homelessness. I am especially proud to see the inclusion of my bill, H.R. 6729, the COVID-19 Homeowner Assistance Fund Act, which provides $75 billion in homeowner assistance to help families across our 50 states, the District of Columbia, and our territories meet the costs of homeownership during this time of economic distress. Keeping people in their homes is the most important way we can protect the health, safety, and stability of our communities.
Transportation Amendment
Today, I led my colleagues in the House of Representatives in approving an amendment that, if enacted into law, will protect Georgia and Clayton County from efforts to divert general sales tax revenue away from schools and public services. The amendment to H.R. 2, the INVEST in America Act, would reverse a harmful 2014 FAA policy decision requiring state and local governments to use general sales taxes collected on aviation fuel for airport purposes. For airport communities like Clayton County that rely on these sales taxes revenues to fund essential health, education, and civic services, this represents a devastating loss of revenue. I look forward to the inclusion of this amendment as I vote tomorrow to pass H.R. 2. |
