Hi Big!
I’m Eugene DePasquale, and I’m the new Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair. You put your trust in me to lead our party through an undeniably rough patch. I don’t take that responsibility lightly, and I’m grateful for your trust.
A lot of you already know me from the two terms I served as Pennsylvania’s Auditor General and in our state legislature, and from the times we came up short when I ran for Attorney General and for Congress. I’ve built a reputation as a guy who’s not afraid of a fight, whether it’s protecting your tax dollars and our Commonwealth’s integrity as Auditor General or breaking up rowdy fans at a Pitt football game, and I’m always going to tell it to you straight.
I know from experience that losing sucks. And Democrats have been getting the crap kicked out of us. It doesn’t feel good, and the consequences have been dire. This is about more than winning elections - it’s about good versus evil and right versus wrong.
We need to get back to basics and remember that we’re the party of the steelworkers, the teachers, the firefighters, the bus drivers, the nurses, and everyone else who wakes up every day and goes to work, does the best job they can, and comes home every night to their family and friends who are doing the same thing. This party needs to work as hard for you as you work for your family and your community.
On football fields, on picket lines, on battlefields, and in boxing rings - Pennsylvanians are fighters. This country was born here, and Pennsylvania Democrats are not going to stand on the sidelines while billionaires and little men who want to be dictators and kings try to take it from us. In Pennsylvania, we take care of our own, and we’re fighting to win because we’re fighting for all of us.
This fight isn’t just in Washington, DC, or even Harrisburg. It’s in our towns and boroughs, and so that’s where I’ll be. I want to come to your kids’ t-ball games, I want to run with your running club and train at your gym, I want to meet your book club, I want to help make prom decorations and come to your family reunions - it’s time for Democrats to get out of our “blue bubbles” of committee meetings and rallies and start talking to our neighbors and community members who might not always think like we do. I know that can be tough and uncomfortable, and that’s why I’ll do it with you. I want every Pennsylvanian to know that Democrats are going to show up for them.
And look: I’m not going to ask you for a dime today. I know that a couple of bucks to you is a far bigger deal than it is for the guys who build rocketships for their wives to go to space for the weekend. Everyone keeps asking you for money, and every day, you have less of it to give because no one has done a damn thing to make your life better. I’m not gonna do that. At least not today. I’m going to work hard to earn your investment in a party that you can trust to start doing better for you, and then we’ll work together to crush the billionaires who are trying to buy our state courts. And I can promise you not a single dollar will go to putting tacky gold paint on anything in our offices.
Thank you,
Eugene DePasquale
