Dear Friend,
Every week I’m reminded why I came to Congress: to stand up for the truth, protect our community and country and fight for South Jersey families. Here is what I was up to last week.
Forcing Vote on Epstein Files and Pushing Back Against Republicans’ Political Stunt
Congressman Norcross voted against a censure of Congresswoman LaMonica McIver. |
In July, Mike Johnson sent Congress home from Washington early to avoid a vote on releasing the Jeffrey Epstein files. Last week, I signed a discharge petition to force the House of Representatives to vote on releasing the Epstein files because you deserve to know the truth. A discharge petition allows Members to bring a bill to the floor for a vote without the Speaker of the House. We already have four Republicans signed on, and the White House is feeling the pressure.
I also voted against a censure of Congresswoman LaMonica McIver. The censure was pushed by Republicans after the Congresswoman was attempting to perform her congressional duty of oversight at an immigration detention facility in Newark. The censure is a clear political stunt designed to silence her voice. Congresswoman McIver has been a strong advocate for her district and for our democracy. She will continue working for New Jersey on the House Homeland Security Committee, and she is here to stay.
Celebrating Peter J. McGuire’s Legacy
Congressman Norcross announces legislation to designate Peter J. McGuire's grave as a National Historic Landmark. |
From the construction site to Congress, I’ve always carried with me the lessons of Peter J. McGuire. As we celebrated Labor Day, I introduced legislation to designate his gravesite as a National Historic Landmark. He showed us that progress for working families comes through organizing and fighting together. I wrote about his legacy and what it means for us today in a recent op-ed. If you missed it, you can read it here.
Fighting for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Congressman Norcross meets with Cooper River Indivisible. |
Immigrants make our communities stronger. Last week, I met with members of Cooper River Indivisible to discuss conditions at Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark and the challenges families face when visiting loved ones.
We’ve waited too long for a real legal path to immigration. I support policies that treat families with dignity, protect DREAMers, and stop wasting money and military resources on inhumane enforcement.
Remembering Those We Lost to Addiction
Congressman Norcross speaks at the annual Camden County Remembrance and Hope Memorial Vigil. |
Every year, we come together as a community in Camden County to remember those we lost to addiction. Their memory pushes us to fight for better care, fair treatment, and to break the stigma. I was honored to join our local community at the Camden County Remembrance and Hope Memorial Vigil to share stories, memories, and recommit ourselves to ending the disease of addiction.
