A kid breaks an arm at the playground. A parent gets a scary diagnosis. A grandparent needs medication. These moments shouldn’t come with price tags, co-pays, or panic attacks over whether the insurance will cover it. But in America — they do.
And as a mom, I’m done pretending our system isn’t broken by design.

We’ve allowed a corporate health industry to dictate who gets care and who gets denied. Working families are drowning in medical debt. Rural hospitals are closing. Mental health services are underfunded. And still, Democrats hesitate to back bold policies like Medicare for All — worried it’s “too extreme” for the moderates.
What’s extreme is kids dying because insulin costs $300. What’s extreme is tying healthcare to employment in a country where jobs aren’t stable, and where many are forced to work sick just to keep their benefits.
We can’t promote the general welfare if people are too broke to get to the doctor.
Healthcare is a human right. It’s not radical. It’s what the rest of the world already understands. And it’s what our movement must demand — loudly, relentlessly, and unapologetically.
Because when my girls get sick, I don’t want to worry about networks or deductibles. I want to get them help — and I want that for every family, every person, everywhere. Period.
Next up: LGBTQIA rights — because justice isn’t justice if it excludes anyone .
In solidarity and fight,
Edil Mari De Los Reyes

PowerPAC is a social justice organization that strategically directs financial and human resources to local and state organizations working to deliver wins in legislative fights, ballot initiatives, and more. For years the money we've raised has, dollar for dollar, been given back to the communities we work with. We've made sure that your investments were being used to build power for our communities because too often we are underrepresented and ignored.
