Dear CV Friend,

Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.

This morning, we won big.

Early today the Supreme Court ruled that a state cannot exclude religious schools from funding made available to other private schools. In doing so, the Court reined in state “Blaine amendments” which originated in shameful 19th century anti-Catholic bigotry, and have allowed governments to discriminate against Catholic schools for 145 years.

This is a victory for all Catholics.

It’s also a huge win for low-income families of all faiths and races seeking alternatives to failing public schools. Real educational choice -- especially the option of attending a Catholic school -- could address many of the race issues tearing apart our country today.

Finally, today’s decision is yet another reminder of why good judges and sound legal reasoning matter. Judicial decisions (both good and bad) transform our national life. Elections matter, because judges matter.

Which is why what happens in November matters...

...

I know we’ve lost several big court decisions over the past two weeks. Predictably the media pounced with glee: “the conservative project is over!” The combination of these decisions along with roving anti-American (and increasingly anti-Catholic) mobs has us all feeling anxious.

I get it. I read and watch the news just like you.

And lately, there’s been a pit in my stomach.

Is America over? Where are all the good people? Where are our church leaders?

What can we do to fight back?

REMEMBER: I can’t speak for everybody. But I am in this fight for the long haul. No single decision, judge, president, or skinny jean Antifa activist is going to intimidate us. They can shout in our faces. Deface our monuments and churches. Even threaten our families and our homes...

But we will never, ever give up. NEVER!

Why? Because our witness to the truth never expires. The struggle for goodness and truth is not something to fear -- or measured as the world measures. Indeed, crises are not new to human history or the Church. Through thick and thin, by God's grace, we are called to persevere. This is no time to be afraid.

Instead, this is our moment to shine. So why not embrace the adventure?

There’s no better time to decide to become a saint!

And enjoy today’s victory.

It matters.

Brian

P.S. I’ll be sharing some big news soon on what’s happening on the ground with your CV field team. We’re rockin. And, well...hint: some bishops aren’t big fans of us urging faithful Catholics to vote.
