Friend, As we continue to experience the COVID-19 crisis, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we need science and actions that protect our health. You know what we don’t need? A genetically engineered corn seed that is resistant to FIVE herbicides. Monsanto is asking the USDA to approve the use of a GE corn seed that is resistant to five herbicides: dicamba, glufosinate, 2,4-dichlogophenoxyacetic acid, quizalofop, and glyphosate. Incredibly, Monsanto just paid $10 billion to settle lawsuits linking Roundup (and its active chemical ingredient, glyphosate) to cancer and $400 million to farmers whose crops were damaged by dicamba drifting onto their fields. But, they want to spread more poison on our farms. If the USDA approves Monsanto’s petition, it will result in the increased use of all these herbicides, which will lead to more people and pollinators being exposed to the harmful health impacts of herbicide exposure. |
