Friend, the Trump administration and Congress say they want to address overdose and fentanyl. Yet they are continuing massive budget cuts that will make it harder—if not impossible—for many people to get the help they need.
They have already cut hundreds of millions from federal funding for addiction and overdose prevention services along with nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid—the biggest source of addiction treatment funding in the U.S.
And now more cuts could be on the chopping block as Congress negotiates the federal budget over the next few weeks. The Trump administration wants Congress to slash $26 billion more from overdose prevention and addiction treatment by restructuring the Department of Health and Human Services and creating the “Administration for a Healthy America.” Fortunately, the Senate didn’t cave to the pressure, rejected their proposal, and protected this critical funding in their appropriations bill.
Unfortunately, the House may give in to some of Trump’s demands and has already proposed cutting hundreds of millions in funding for treatment and prevention services from vital agencies like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which leads our response to addiction and overdose.
Tomorrow the House Appropriations Committee will markup their budget proposal and we need your help to ensure they don’t include these devastating cuts. Urge your House Rep to protect federal funding for overdose prevention and addiction treatment now!

If the Trump administration gets its way, Congress could make cuts that will further gut addiction treatment, naloxone (which reverses opioid overdoses), fentanyl test strips, medications that reduce cravings and ease withdrawal, research into lifesaving approaches to the overdose crisis, recovery supports, and so much more.
Slashing funding for these vital services and agencies like SAMHSA will only put more lives at risk. This means longer wait times, fewer services, and more lives lost. For families already struggling with addiction, it could mean showing up for help—only to find the door shut.
We can’t let these cuts go through: tell your Representative to protect funding for treatment, overdose prevention, and other lifesaving services immediately.
