I’ve been a lot of things in my life, John — an actor, an activist, a troublemaker. But I never expected to add cancer survivor to that list.

In 2022, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Months of chemotherapy. Countless doctor visits. Some very hard days. I survived because of great doctors and decades of scientific research that led to the treatments that saved my life.

Now, Donald Trump is systematically destroying that same research, and I refuse to stay silent.

Trump decided that American cancer research was somehow too “woke,” so he paused NIH grant-making for over two months, blocking $1.5 billion in funding and effectively halting clinical trials that patients desperately need to survive.

Here’s what his war on “woke” science has already cost us:

• More than 240 cancer-related NIH grants terminated (representing an estimated $355 million in lost funding)
• $35 million in VA cancer research thrown into jeopardy
• $420 million slashed from Defense Department medical research, including breast and ovarian cancer studies

And it’s not just that they're cutting vital research. Trump officials are maintaining a hit list of keywords that trigger grant terminations — words like “trans,” “diverse,” “women,” and “expression.”

Think about that, John. Cancer researchers have lost life-saving grants because of Trump’s hateful “anti-DEI” crusade. It’s despicable.

But that’s exactly why I’m staying in the fight.

Cancer made me think even more about the time I have left and how I want to use it. I don’t want to look back with regrets. I want to know that I did everything in my power to fight for the future — for our health and for the generations that come after us.
