John,
In the months following President Trump’s second inauguration, more than 70 government officials have resigned from their positions in protest.
Their resignations were preceded by demands from leadership that they obey orders that they determined to be illegal, unconstitutional or unethical.
Those demands included: that IRS officials grant DOGE access to the IRS data of undocumented immigrants to share the information with ICE, that DOJ officials drop corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams and that they open a criminal investigation into environmental grants and issue subpoenas without sufficient documentation.
These are a few examples of the demands that triggered a historically unprecedented number of government officials to resign from their positions in protest.
These resignations have resulted in a collective loss of 450 years of civil service experience from the federal government.
This loss poses a serious threat to the well-being and functioning of our government. CREW is working to track these resignations and hold the Trump administration accountable. Donate today to support CREW in this important work →
The Trump administration is sending a clear message: get in line, or get out. Dissenters have no choice but to publicly resign, despite some having served through up to six presidential administrations.
Expertise, experience and merit have been disregarded in favor of blind political loyalty. Our government is not meant to function this way, and this reality is concerning for the wellbeing of our democracy.
That’s why CREW will not stop demanding transparency and ethical leadership from our government. Please donate today to join CREW in our fight →
