Friend, for decades, Humane World Action Fund, formerly called Humane Society Legislative Fund, and our affiliate Humane World for Animals, formerly the Humane Society of the United States, have fought for policies and laws that ensure all animals raised for food are treated more humanely and higher standards of care are required. And thanks to the commitment of people like you, we’ve been able to make great strides toward that goal.
Just take a look at some of the state laws we helped to pass:
• We helped ban or restrict the use of inhumane gestation crates in 11 states and the use of veal crates in 10 states.
• We helped ban the use of cages for egg-laying hens in 11 states and ban the sale of eggs from cage facilities in eight states.
• We helped ban the production and/or sale of foie gras produced through cruel force-feeding in California entirely.
While we’re incredibly proud to have led or participated in the successful campaigns for these laws, and we’ve successfully defended many of them in courts, our work is far from over because many of these laws are now at risk of being negated by several dangerous bills currently in Congress.
That’s why today I’m personally reaching out to ask you to contact your legislators and urge them to oppose the Food Security and Farm Protection Act (S. 1326), the Save Our Bacon Act (H.R. 4673) and any similar legislation. Together, besides attacking protections for animals raised for food, these bills could jeopardize how states set standards for disease and quarantine control, toxic materials and more. Animals (and people) need your help to stop the unraveling of even the most basic protections—so please ACT TODAY.
