Take Action: Call Gov Newsom to demand that the $750m loan for public transit be finalized! |
Two months ago, we asked you to call the Governor to demand that he include transit funding in the state budget. We were pleased to hear that, in part because of your advocacy, the final budget included a promise of a $750 m loan for public transit in the Bay Area. This loan will give BART, Muni, Caltrain, and AC Transit the money they need to deliver service and prevent service cuts for another year until we can pass ballot measures to guarantee more sustainable long-term funding.
Unfortunately, now, with less than a week left until the end of the legislative session, this crucial loan still has not been finalized by the Governor's office. If it doesn't get signed off by him by the end of next week, Muni, BART, and other transit agencies will be forced to implement massive service cuts as soon as January of next year.
Use this tool as a guide to call Governor Newsom and demand that he put his money where his mouth is by getting the $750m loan for public transit finalized before the end of the legislative session. California needs a governor who is willing to lead on public transit -- let's make sure he knows that. |

Thank you to everyone who joined our Transit Month Kickoff Rally! |
|
|
Last week, SFTR hosted our annual Transit Month Kickoff Rally and Ride Along! We rode in from the newly rejuvenated West Portal Station to City Hall, where speakers discussed the importance of Muni and Bay Area transit, and their hopes for the future of our transit systems.
SFMTA Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum concluded the program in stating, “We have so many people who are working so hard to save our Muni system, and having a whole month, and a day like today that acknowledges that leadership from across the city, led by Mayor Lurie, supported by the Board of Supervisors, and the SFMTA Board, but also by so many different advocates who have come together, is incredible.” Special thank you to all of our special guests for helping us launch Transit Month 2025: Mayor Daniel Lurie, SFMTA Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum, District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar, District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan, District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, SFCTA Executive Director Tilly Chang, and SFMTA Board Director Janet Tarlov. |
