Money for Feeding Tampa Bay and affordable housing (both desperately needed right now) were both axed as part of a more than $1 billion budget cut announced on Monday.
This is not how budgeting is supposed to work. The Republican legislators refused to go back to Tallahassee to fight for their constituents when help was needed most.
Now, instead of providing more aid to small businesses and families struggling amidst a new wave of shutdowns, our Governor has cut $1 billion dollars from the budget without the input of our local leaders.
Among these cuts was $255,000 from Feeding Tampa Bay, who has been helping the 1.7 million Tampa Bay residents who are in need of food assistance during the pandemic. Our communities are hurting, and, because of Republican leadership in the legislature, we didn’t get a seat at the table during this critical period.
We need leaders who will do the work and fight for us even when it’s difficult.
