In her Radio Address this weekend [ [link removed] ], Governor Janet Mills encouraged Maine people to be prepared for extreme weather and other natural disasters. She has proclaimed September to be "Preparedness Month" in Maine [ [link removed] ].

"When disasters strike in Maine, our first responders do everything they can to keep us safe and to save lives, but we bear a responsibility to be prepared as well. By being ready for the unexpected, we can ease the burden on our first responders and make sure that help goes first to those who need it most," *Governor Mills said*. "Together, we can make sure our families, our communities, and our state are all safer, stronger, and ready for whatever storms lie ahead."

In her address [ [link removed] ], Governor Mills noted that between March 2022 and May 2024, Maine had nine presidential disaster declarations following extreme storms and other events. The Governor recommended Maine people to mark Preparedness Month by creating an emergency plan for their family, consulting the website of the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) for guidance on creating an emergency kit [ [link removed] ], and signing up for emergency alerts to keep informed [ [link removed]*subscribe ].
