Happy Sunday, True Texans!
I've got some happy news and some somber news. Let's start with the happy!
True Texans across the state can celebrate with our friends in Denton County for a couple of great wins this week. First, I was alerted to a need for someone to run for a special election to the local school board. Only one person had filed -- a Democrat with Muslim ties -- and we had only 1 day til the filing deadline. After putting out the call, True Texans jumped into action, and we ended up with a very strong candidate! THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THE TRUE TEXAS ARMY!
A day later one of our leadership team members in Denton County, Jackie Wakin, organized the effort to censure State Rep Jared Patterson -- and it passed! Wow! No small feat.
Hats off to Denton True Texans and True Texans across the state who are working so hard to save Texas. I know our Harris County vetting team, coordinated by Miriah Sachs, is hard at work selecting candidates to support for local elections in November, and our Cross Timbers satellite has 3 folks running for local elections in November!
This is all just incredible. I'm so proud of each of you!
Now for the somber news...
I was thinking about the anniversary of 9/11 happening later this week. It absolutely boggles my brain to consider how quickly we went from our vow to "never forget" to now having multiple elected positions filled by Middle Easterners. Oh, I'm sure a few of you will decide to reply to this email and call me names for saying it (trust me... I've been hearing it all week after recruiting for Denton County, but it rolls off my back so save your breath). However, the vast majority of you recognize how foolish these choices are.
For this reason, I encourage everyone to commemorate 9/11 this week by either attending a service in person or watching online. I live in Grapevine where American Airlines is headquartered, and we have a memorial statue where a service is held every year and streamed online. I invite you to join in with us, or I'm sure there are multiple other opportunities around the state and nation.
The City of Grapevine will host its annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance Ceremony on Thursday, September 11, beginning at 7:40am at 1000 Texan Trail. This remembrance ceremony will be live streamed on the City of Grapevine’s Facebook platform beginning at 7:30am. Parking may be limited. For those unable to attend, we invite you to join us virtually as we reflect and remember those who perished on this date 24 years ago.
We Will Never Forget!
New Things Every new month brings new life to True Texas Project. Our monthly meetings queue up (and we have some GREAT speakers lined up for Sept); our new podcast drops (details below); our new calendar is shared (scroll down to check it out). There's just so much to be excited about!
On a personal, I'll add one more thing: I'm super-excited about something new we're doing in my neck of the woods... dancing! It's not a TTP event and not at all political, but it does seem to be all my favorite political activists who are participating! It's an open invitation to join us for exercise and fun once a week as Mona Puente leads us in line-dancing. Get up and move! Reply to this email for details.
TTP Board Meeting We held our annual Board meeting this week, something I absolutely love because we have the best people. None of us are afraid to have a differing opinion, but we stay respectful, have insightful conversations, and make the hard decisions. This time we were discussing the Constitutional amendments we'll be voting on in November. Watch for the elections page on our website to be updated soon with our recommendations, plus some candidate guidance for those facing special and/or local elections.
Friendly Reminder We do a LOT to save Texas. It takes money. That's about as short and sweet as I can make it. We need your help! Please consider setting up a regular monthly donation. Texas is worth it!
Candidate Support Campaigns are really ramping up, and we're getting a lot of requests for activists to jump in and help. Here's one I got from Cheryl Bean's team (running to replace Tony Tinderholt), but it's just one example. Candidates across the state need you!
Cheryl Bean, endorsed by Rep. Tony Tinderholt, County Judge Tim O’Hare, Ag Comm. Sid Miller, Sheriff Bill Waybourn, and many other conservative leaders, needs your help! She’s actively looking for volunteers to ensure she’ll represent HD 94 in the Texas House. She’s is happy to be contacted via email at [email protected] or phone at (817) 368-8659. Her campaign manager can be reached at [email protected].
So pick a candidate and get to work! These campaigns don't win themselves!
Call To Action At the risk of this email becoming way too long, I want to highlight an action item Fran sent out on Thursday. We've been asked to help influence the State Board of Education as they vote this week on curriculum. Here's my summary of the way you can take action...
We expect TEKS and instructional material that will be a comprehensive model, taught in a chronological manner, to include:
American Exceptionalism and Texas Greatness
Dedicated instruction on Texas State History
Promote love of country while encouraging honest reflection on trials and triumphs
Please vote for responsible Social Studies TEKS that support critical thinking, comprehensive and chronological teaching of US and Texas history, and reflect the true history of Texas and America.
