Friends,

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of a great Democrat, devoted activist, and friend, Mitchell Stollberg.

Mitchell led by example in his daily life and was one of the most outgoing and dynamic activists in our Party. Mitch served as a Broward DEC Precinct Committeeman since 2012 and was an active member of the Broward Democratic Party Legislative, Platform and Human Rights Committees. In addition to his BDP roles, he was a founding member and former Vice President of the Oakland Park Democratic Club and former Parliamentarian of the Dolphin Democrats.

Mitchell was a tireless advocate for Medicare for All and the Fight for $15. He stood on the front lines with and on behalf of working families and allies in the labor movement, and a host of other advocacy groups. He battled for healthcare as a human right, fair wages, affordable housing and equal treatment of the LGBTQ+ community, minorities and environmental issues for many years. Just last week, despite ill health, Mitchell participated in the caravan organized by the Broward County AFL-CIO in support of the passage of the Heroes Act and the plight of our frontline workers and their families.

Mitchell will be especially remembered for his fierce leadership on behalf of the progressive community. As a Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida board member, Mitchell served as the Legislative Committee chair for that organization and was active on the board of the Broward chapter. He was instrumental in the formation and success of Our Revolution and Progressive Democrats of America in Broward County. He was also a longtime supporter of the work of Sen. Bernie Sanders and was proudly elected to be a District Delegate for him to the 2016 Democratic National Convention. He was looking forward to again serving as a Sanders delegate in August of this year.

We cherished our time with Mitchell and were blessed to have him in our lives. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and many friends throughout Broward County and the State of Florida. He will be deeply missed.
