Dear friend,

The most heartbreaking yet anticipated humanitarian crisis is taking place
in Gaza: Over 500,000 people have plunged into catastrophic levels of
hunger with many now experiencing famine.

An entirely man-made conflict is starving hundreds of thousands of people
to death.

The confirmation of famine in Gaza by a UN-backed report comes after 23
months of bombardment, displacement, blockade, aid restrictions, and
political inaction. The report also projects the number of severe
malnutrition cases to more than double — from 14,100 to 41,000.

Mercy Corps is working in and around Gaza, responding to families' dire
needs.

A boy carries an empty pail, on his way to an emergency distribution of
hot food at the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

Gaza food systems have been ruined. Over 98 percent of cropland in Gaza is
either damaged, inaccessible or both. Much of the infrastructure essential
for the flow and storage of food is destroyed. And just 55,600 metric tons
of food have been able to enter Gaza in the first half of August, a small
fraction of what’s needed to meet the compounding, prolonged, and
catastrophic needs on the ground. It is simply not enough.

Families are going days without food. Children are being reduced to
skeletons. Infrastructure is collapsing from constant bombing. Aid is
rapidly depleting. The people of Gaza are losing the last sliver of hope
that remained.

Famine is no longer a risk in Gaza — it’s a reality. It’s a race against
time, and every effort by all actors counts. Immediate and decisive action
will save lives and alleviate suffering.

Mercy Corps is on the ground, providing clean drinking water to help
families with hygiene practices, dehydration, and household needs. We are
continuing to call for a permanent ceasefire and the unhindered entry of
humanitarian aid. We have lifesaving assistance at the border that’s ready
to distribute as soon as restrictions are lifted. This includes the 4,600
food kits, 14,000 hygiene kits, and more than 8,640 emergency shelter kits
waiting for clearance to enter Gaza. But more support is needed to meet
this urgent and catastrophic crisis deteriorating in Gaza.

committed supporter, will you make a gift today to help us deliver
life-saving and life-sustaining aid to Gaza, Sudan, and 35+ countries
around the world?
