This past month, I took my first vacation of more than a week in 3 years. If you want to see about my time in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, go to my personal facebook page. While there, I kept and am now keeping an eye on several important County issues: the Mental Health Docket, Immigration and pushing back against the Trump Administration's inhumane policies, and several others consistent with our shared ideals.
I write today with a request that I believe is related, but with a different focus:

I write to ask you to help make a difference in this fall's elections in Virginia and in our country's history. Please help Sheila Bynum-Coleman in her race for the Virginia House of Delegates against the current Speaker of the House Kirk Cox by joining Sheila and I at an event on September 7th here in Arlington. Electing Sheila is one of the clearest, most concrete things we can do over the next 3 weeks on behalf of the ideals we share.
The Speaker of the Virginia House shut down debate last month on common sense gun safety just 90 minutes into the Special Session. To learn more:

Speaker Cox also opposes the Equal Rights Amendment, climate change legislation, and raising the minimum wage. Sheila stands strongly in favor of each of these policies. Electing her will make Virginia and Arlington much better places to live. We will also send a clear message that common sense gun safety candidates can and will win across the country going forward.

I know Sheila will not only stand for ideals, but will also be a excellent Delegate because I met her at the Virginia Women's Summit last month. She told me about her campaign and how she can win in a way that resonated immediately with me. I later learned about her commitment to common sense gun safety and how her daughter was shot in 2016. Her daughter lived. If the bullet had been 3 inches in another direction, she would not have. We must act to reduce the risks of gun violence in Arlington, Virginia, and this nation.
