As you know, Country First was born in the wake of the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol—an attack on our democracy, driven by lies, plain and simple.

This past week, House Republicans—many of whom know better—voted to form yet another committee to investigate January 6th. Let’s be clear: this isn’t about uncovering the truth. That work was already done by the bipartisan January 6th Committee I proudly served on. This is about rewriting history, erasing accountability, and serving the whims of Donald Trump.

I know what happened that day. I was in my office, hearing the mob chant to hang Mike Pence, seeing brave Capitol Police officers assaulted by rioters, and feeling the darkness descend on our democracy. I also know that many of my former colleagues know the truth too—but they are too scared and too weak to stand up for the truth. They put their careers above their country, and history will not remember them kindly.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump pardons rioters who attacked police officers—so much for “backing the blue” and many of those same individuals have since been arrested for committing new crimes. 

But here’s the truth: history never forgets. When the story of this dark chapter is written, it will show the reality of January 6th, the courage of those who defended democracy, and the work we did on the January 6th Committee to shine light on the truth.

And out of that darkness, something powerful was born: Country First. Together, we’ve built a movement that refuses to surrender to lies or authoritarianism. While others remain paralyzed or complicit, we are mobilizing, organizing, and making a real impact—proving that democracy is worth defending.

So, while they try to rewrite history, we will keep making it. Thank you for being in this fight with us. The reasonable majority is louder, stronger, and ready to keep pushing forward.
