Fellow Conservative,

Congress is back in session this week! On Thursday, Robert F. Kennedy, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services testified before the Senate Finance Committee on the President’s healthcare agenda. As you might expect, there were some fireworks as he challenged the Swamp.

Congress is back from August recess… and let’s just say there’s a lot of work to do.

Funding Priorities

Government funding expires on September 30th. Given the timeline, passing twelve appropriations bills is no longer possible, so Congress is expected to consider a continuing resolution (CR) to extend government funding. Congress could pass a short-term CR later into the fall or early 2026, or a full-year CR that would expire September 30, 2026. All eyes are on Congressional Democrats and whether they will shut down the government over their hatred of President Trump.

CBDC Showdown

Next week, both chambers of Congress will turn their attention towards the annual, must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). As part of that, Heritage Action grassroots have been urging Congress to include a ban on what’s known as central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). CBDCs pose an existential threat to our liberty and must be blocked.

House conservatives appeared to score a victory for financial privacy in July — if they can hold leadership true to their word. Prior to leaving for August recess, the House passed the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, but it’s unlikely to make it past Senate Democrats and the filibuster. That’s why House conservatives withheld their support for other crypto bills to secure guarantees that a ban on CBDCs will be included in the upcoming NDAA.

If you haven’t already, please take the time to make your voice heard!

Nominees on Deck?

It’s possible the Senate could start the confirmation process for Heritage’s own EJ Antoni for the vacant Bureau of Labor Statistics post as soon as this week. But EJ is only one of the many who the Senate needs to quickly confirm.

The Senate left for August recess with hundreds of nominees awaiting confirmation, leaving many key people unable to start important work in President Trump’s administration. Yet, they also blocked the Trump administration from doing “recess appointments” by using a loophole that allows Congress to stay in session without adjourning. It’s well past time to get President Trump the team he needs to deliver his agenda.

MAHA made an appearance in Congress this week.

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing on Thursday, the Left’s hubris was on full display as Sec. Kennedy was bombarded with false accusations and shoddy statistics — and it went just how you’d expect. Check

Earlier this week, Heritage Action President, Dr. Kevin Roberts, took the mainstage at the National Conservatism Conference — NatCon5 — calling on conservatives to fight for the American family.

Families are a critical institution of any successful nation. Although conservative leaders have fought the radical left’s most egregious policies that undermine the family, they’ve done so on the left’s philosophical playing ground.

Why does this matter?:

It matters because the Left’s philosophy of government isn’t just wrong, it’s very wrong.

The Left’s understanding of government has become so warped that they’re rejecting even the most basic principles that our nation was founded on. Just this week, Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia argued against the inalienable rights of Americans.

Our rights come from God, not the Government.

Families have been hit especially hard by this. While the government writes tax codes that penalizes married parents, it is also restricting the inalienable rights of parents to raise their children in their own way. As Heritage Action Executive Vice President Tiffany Justice pointed out, the government is not a co-parent.

This is not a moment conservatives can afford to miss. Whether it’s ending vaccine mandates, expanding education freedom, or protecting our kids from the transgender-agenda, a movement to strengthen the American family is long overdue, and Heritage Action will be leading the way to help America correct course.

As part of their special session that kicked off this week, Missouri became the latest state to redraw their congressional map in an effort to counter blue state gerrymanders in states like California and Illinois. Heritage Action will keep you posted on further developments from the Show-Me State’s special session!

Meanwhile, Texas just wrapped up their (second) special session. In addition to successfully passing their new congressional map, several important conservative wins are awaiting Governor Abbott’s signature. These include:

Protecting Women’s Privacy:

  • Senate Bill 8 – SB 8 protects the safety and privacy of women and girls by requiring sex-separated spaces to be based on properly defined biological sex.

Further Strengthening the Integrity of our Elections:

  • Senate Bill 12 – SB 12 empowers the Attorney General to prosecute election crimes.

  • Senate Bill 54 – SB 54 ensures the accuracy of voter registration lists by repealing a provision that allowed for same-day registration within counties.

Heritage Action’s Sentinels are the tip of the spear in the conservative movement — and they are making their voices heard. Sentinels across the country are using Heritage’s expert analysis to spread the word about how President Trump’s bill provides relief for American families and workers. Here’s just a few examples:

  • Colleen Waugh of California was published in the Chico Enterprise-Record defending the important tax cuts enacted.

  • Ed Vidal of Florida was published in the Miami Independent where he highlights the tax cuts, border provisions, welfare reforms, and other wins.

  • Mike Steffen of Illinois was published in the Quad-City Times and noted the tax cuts, welfare reforms, and DOD provisions as critical wins for the American people.
