Dear Friend,
I wanted to provide an update on the work I am doing in the House of Representatives to represent the great people of Maryland's First Congressional District and to advance commonsense, conservative legislation in Washington, D.C.
Investing in Energy, Security, and Maryland’s Waterways
This past week, I helped advance and pass the Fiscal Year 2026 Energy and Water Appropriations Act, which makes critical investments to strengthen America’s security and rebuild our infrastructure. The bill modernizes America’s nuclear defense systems, supports the Navy’s nuclear fleet, and restores American energy strength by expanding nuclear power and critical mineral production so we are not dependent on China. It also funds ports, waterways, and flood control projects that protect Shore communities, support our watermen, and keep Maryland’s First District economy moving.
Strengthening America’s Defense Industry and Workforce
This week, I voted in support of the Made-in-America Defense Act, a bill which requires the State Department to review how U.S. defense equipment and services are sold to our allies. The bill ensures that more defense sales can be made directly by American companies, creating jobs here at home instead of adding red tape in Washington. By streamlining this process, we can speed up sales, strengthen our national security, and support America’s defense workforce.
Cracking Down on Deadly Chinese Fentanyl
The House moved to protect American families by passing the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act of 2025. This bill targets Chinese companies and officials that make or ship fentanyl and the chemicals used to produce it, giving the U.S. stronger tools to sanction those fueling the crisis. It also pressures China to tighten oversight of its chemical industry, so these dangerous substances don’t reach our streets. In addition, the bill requires the President of the United States to report to Congress on how well these measures are working, ensuring accountability and oversight. By holding China accountable and keeping pressure on traffickers, we can help stop deadly drugs from reaching our communities, prevent overdoses, save American lives, and strengthen our fight against the opioid epidemic.
