The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Bolstering President Trump’s Efforts to Rein in D.C. Lawlessness
I introduced two pieces of legislation to aid President Trump in his efforts to deter crime in our nation’s capital.
The Make D.C. Safe Again Act amends the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to extend the emergency period during which the President of the United States may exercise control over Washington D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The Home Rule Act currently provides the President with the authority to assume control over MPD during emergencies for thirty days. My legislation extends that period to 180 days, ensuring that President Trump and federal authorities can stabilize conditions in the nation’s capital without being hamstrung by artificial time limits.
The Keep Offenders Off Our Streets Act prohibits the practice of cashless bail in the District of Columbia. D.C. law currently permits judges to release criminals back on the street without requiring them to post monetary bail. My bill would stop judges from releasing criminals without bail, giving prosecutors a stronger foundation to uphold the rule of law and keep criminals out of our communities.
When our nation’s capital faces lawlessness, violent crime, and breakdowns in public order, the federal government has a responsibility and a constitutional duty to act decisively.
The District of Columbia is the seat of our federal government, the home of our institutions, and a symbol of American strength. Weak leadership at the local level too often leaves D.C. vulnerable to the chaos of the radical Left. President Trump has shown time and time again his commitment to restoring law and order in D.C. and across the country. My legislation ensures that President Trump has the necessary time and authority to quell the chaos that has reigned in woke D.C.
America’s capital must be a city where families feel safe and businesses can thrive. I’m thankful for President Trump’s determination to restore law and order, and I look forward to working with him and his team to make Washington, D.C. safe again.
Cosponsors of the legislation include: Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), and Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD).

Honoring the Heroic Servicemembers Lost During Biden’s Disastrous Afghanistan Withdrawal
Last week marked the fourth anniversary of Joe Biden’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that resulted in the tragic deaths of thirteen American servicemembers and dozens of Afghan citizens.
We will never forget the thirteen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We join their families in mourning their loss.
Celebrating the USMC Reserve’s Birthday
We celebrated the 109th birthday of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Reserve. The brave men and women of USMC Reserve stand ready to defend our homeland and protect our freedoms.
Thank you, USMC Reserve, for your dedication and bravery, and happy birthday!

House Judiciary Committee Hearing
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled “Europe’s Threat to American Speech and Innovation.” My colleagues and I discussed the censorship and silencing of U.K. citizens by their government and how the U.S. must take action to ensure we do not follow in the U.K.’s footsteps.
Governments in the U.K. and across Europe are censoring and arresting people for political speech they don't agree with. During the Biden-Harris regime, we witnessed Americans censored at the request of high-ranking Biden officials. We must further investigate the weaponization of government under radical Democrats’ control. We must protect freedom of speech.
We must also enact meaningful Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reform to protect Americans’ right to privacy. The Biden-Garland FBI abused FISA to conduct improper searches of Americans 278,000 times in a single year. The House must reform FISA to protect Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights.

Celebrating Ten Years of the House Freedom Caucus
This week, we celebrated ten years of the only authentically conservative group of Representatives: the House Freedom Caucus.
HFC has fought against the DC Cartel since its creation in 2015, and we continue fighting to advance President Trump’s priorities. As Chairman of HFC from 2019-2022, I can personally attest to our Members’ commitment to upholding America’s founding principles.
During the Ten Year Policy Summit, I participated in a panel on the Democrats’ Green New Scam and how HFC is working with President Trump and the Administration to restore American energy sovereignty. Energy security is national security.
Examining CBP Air and Marine Operations’ Border Security Measures at Fort Huachuca
I visited the Fort Huachuca Army base in Sierra Vista.
I was briefed on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations’ (AMO) Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) program and how it is used to surveil our nation’s borders and protect against foreign threats.
CBP agents work diligently to protect our borders from invasion. Thank you, CBP!
Discussing Retail Theft Deterrence with Local Walmart Associates
I was pleased to tour a local Walmart in Gilbert to discuss measures they’ve taken to deter retail theft, including individual theft and theft related to a large organized crime ring.
Walmart works with federal agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to uncover, deter, and prevent retail theft, keeping prices as low as possible for Arizonans.
As the Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance, I applaud the efforts taken by Walmart and federal agencies to keep our communities safe.
Visiting Lucid Motors
I toured Lucid Motors’s Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) in Casa Grande.
Lucid brings thousands of jobs to hardworking Arizonans and manufactures a vast majority of their parts here in the United States.
Thank you, Lucid, for choosing to call Arizona home to AMP-1.
Streamlining Federal Operations for a More Competitive U.S. Energy Future
I spoke at the Sixth Annual Texas Energy Forum organized by U.S. Energy Stream.
Arizona is leading the path forward to American energy dominance while President Trump and his Cabinet work to deregulate the energy sector.
Energy security is critical for our national security. Thank you to U.S. Energy Stream for hosting this great forum!
Team Biggs Visits University of Arizona Research Sites
Team Biggs enjoyed visiting the San Xavier Underground Mine and Biosphere 2, two innovative research facilities owned and operated by the University of Arizona.
The San Xavier Mine is a one-of-a-kind, real-world training laboratory. Students, mining professionals, and industry partners use the site for hands-on education and the development of ultramodern technology. Along with building the vital national mining workforce and serving as a tech proving ground, the mine conducts community outreach to teach the public about the importance of responsible mineral extraction in meeting the world’s growing resource demands.
Biosphere 2 is a 3.14-acre living laboratory where cutting-edge research unfolds across diverse ecosystems—including a rainforest, ocean, mangrove, desert, and the Landscape Evolution Observatory. Biosphere 2 features a diverse array of complex, interconnected biomes and active research systems. Unlike in the natural world, scientists at Biosphere 2 can precisely control and isolate environmental variables, allowing them to study interactions that are impossible to separate in nature.
Thank you to the University of Arizona for their hospitality.
Team Biggs Tours Nation’s Largest Christian University
My staff was honored to tour Grand Canyon University (GCU) in Phoenix. GCU is the largest Christian university in the U.S. and was unjustly targeted by Joe Biden’s radical Department of Education.
GCU is committed to student success and bettering the community around the campus. Students, faculty, and volunteers serve in programs like City Serve and Canyon Ventures to facilitate student and community growth and provide basic necessities for underprivileged individuals and families in Arizona.
Thank you for welcoming Team Biggs to campus and sharing the exciting project happening at GCU.
IndoFest 2025
Staff from my Mesa office attended IndoFest 2025, a celebration of Indonesian culture and heritage.
I appreciate the Indonesian Consulate-General for being in attendance at this wonderful event and sharing about Indonesian traditions and customs with our community.
Thank you to all the performers, vendors, and event organizers for your dedication to Arizona’s Indonesian population.
Celebrating Local Businesses
Staff from my district office attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for Floor & Decor’s newest location in Chandler.
Congratulations! I wish them success.
Visiting with Our Local Veterans
My office’s Veterans Affairs representative attended a Remember Everyone Deployed (RED) event in the East Valley to show support for the 228,000 United States service members and Department of Defense officials who are currently deployed.
Kerry Pardue, a Vietnam War veteran, served as the guest speaker at the event.
Thank you to all the military personnel in attendance for your service to our great nation!

Recognizing Major Fannie Griffin-McClendon
My office’s Veterans Affairs Representative attended a plaque dedication ceremony for Major Fannie Griffin-McClendon, who served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II. At 104 years old, Major Griffin-McClendon is the last remaining member of this group.
Thank you for your service and dedication to our country!
