MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF KAZAKHSTAN TO THE UNITED STATES

This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Yerzhan Ashikbayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States.

We discussed how we can strengthen trading relations between our two countries.

I appreciate having these conversations to advocate for Iowa.

TEAM FEENSTRA ATTENDING THE RIBBON CUTTING FOR THE SIOUXLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION'S NEW LOCATION IN SIOUX CITY

Yesterday, while I was voting in D.C., our Ag & Manufacturing Liaison — Wes — attended the ribbon cutting for the Siouxland Community Foundation’s new location in Sioux City.

The foundation — which donated over $3 million last year — supports worthy causes in the Siouxland area.

HOLDING CHINA ACCOUNTABLE FOR MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTING DEADLY FENTANYL

On Tuesday, I voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act.

This legislation would impose tough sanctions on Chinese fentanyl producers who flood our country and our communities with these deadly drugs.

Criminals who manufacture fentanyl with no regard for human life must be held accountable for their actions.

The House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday aimed at holding China accountable for its role in the fentanyl crisis.

PLYMOUTH COUNTY FARM BUREAU ANNUAL MEETING IN LE MARS

On Tuesday night, our Ag & Manufacturing Liaison — Wes — attended the Plymouth County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Le Mars where Bill Tentinger received the Service to Ag Award.

I’ll always stand up for our farmers and producers because agriculture is Iowa’s economic engine!

CONNECTING OUR RURAL COMMUNITIES TO THE INTERNET

Expanding access to high-speed broadband is critical for economic growth and community development in rural Iowa.

Reliable internet connection helps our businesses on Main Street grow, our farmers monitor market fluctuations and commodity prices in real time, and our families stay connected to the world.

We must do everything possible to invest in the necessary infrastructure to deliver state-of-the-art broadband to every rural community.

It’s why I introduced legislation to reauthorize the Middle Mile program to ensure that broadband providers can connect homes, farms, and businesses to the internet as efficiently as possible.

Rural Iowa deserves reliable, affordable access to high-speed broadband, and this bill will help close the digital divide between rural communities and urban centers.

TRADE DEAL WITH JAPAN GREATLY BENEFITS IOWA AGRICULTURE!

On Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order to implement the historic trade deal that he negotiated with Japan.

Under this agreement, Japan will purchase $8 billion worth of U.S. corn, soybeans, and ethanol every year, putting more money into our producers' pockets and growing our agricultural economy in Iowa!

ONE LAST THING: IOWA STATE FAIR BUTTER COW ON DISPLAY IN D.C.!

Sarah Pratt, the Iowa State Fair butter cow sculptor, has sculpted another version for a Smithsonian exhibition in Washington, D.C.

This exhibit will be available to the public until September 7th of 2026!

I'm so glad to see our Iowa traditions on full display in our nation's capital.

MY WEEKLY COLUMN: ACHIEVING PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH AND DETERRING FOREIGN ADVERSARIES

When President Trump returned to the Oval Office early this year, he immediately announced a new and much-needed plan for the United States’ national security — “Peace through strength.”

President Trump assumed the presidency with the world on fire. Conflicts raging across the Middle East and eastern Europe, a nuclear Iran enriching uranium to dangerous levels and supplying arms to our other adversaries, and an emboldened China.

“Peace through strength” was not just a moniker, it was a message to our enemies across the globe that we were no longer going to lead from behind. With President Trump’s leadership, we are correcting course and making our nation, and the world, more secure than ever.
