As Trump continues his federal takeover of the D.C. police, a federal judge has ruled this week that Trump’s deployment of thousands of National Guard troops to Los Angeles was illegal. The ruling bars the Pentagon from using the National Guard and Marines to perform police functions, such as arrests and crowd control. Despite this, Trump has announced his plans to order federal troops to mobilize in Chicago and Baltimore to “combat crime,” against opposition from state and local authorities.

This is just the latest example of how Donald Trump has violated the Constitution and committed multiple high crimes. The appropriate response to his actions, outlined in the Constitution, is the impeachment and removal process, a responsibility of Congress.

We cannot allow Trump and his allies to destroy our democracy. Now that our representatives have returned to Capitol Hill, we need Congress to do its job, defend the Constitution, and impeach and remove Donald Trump from office for his grave abuses of power.
