Dear Community Partner,
The issue of financial security—defined as having enough resources to meet financial obligations and handle unexpected expenses—is more pressing than ever. In today's economic climate, low- and moderate-income (LMI) consumers face significant challenges in their savings journeys due to high inflation, stagnant wages, and increasing costs of essential goods.
Research shows that LMI households often lack the financial resources to establish an emergency fund or prepare for economic downturns. A recent study by the Aspen Institute, titled "Rainy Days Don't Retire," found that 47% of seniors in America do not have enough liquid savings to protect themselves from financial shocks.
To tackle this issue, we urgently need innovative strategies that go beyond traditional savings accounts. These strategies should be accessible, affordable, and provide incentives along with structured pathways. Targeted initiatives, matched savings programs, and alternative financial tools can help participants save, manage debt and acquire assets, while also avoiding the fees and accessibility challenges associated with mainstream banking.
It's time for consumers to explore savings options beyond traditional savings accounts.
Please join us on Sept. 17 for a 90-minute webinar that will take a close look at, and offer insight into, the power of alternative savings programs for consumers. The webinar will include discussions about the current challenges faced by consumers, the role of alternative savings programs in addressing these challenges, and practical strategies for implementing and promoting these programs.
Guest speakers for the webinar include Jason Ewas, lead for the Aspen Institute Early Wealth Building and Emergency Savings Initiative; Tasha Bishop, digital content marketing manager at SaverLife; and Bruce McClary, senior vice president of membership and media relations with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m. PT (11 a.m. MT; noon CT; 1 p.m. ET)
