Dear Friend,

This week, we continue to see the effects of this administration’s policy decisions. Inflation keeps rising and unemployment rates are at an all-time high. The conservative funding bill slashed healthcare funding, causing premiums to skyrocket. And Trump’s reckless trade policies are jacking up food prices.

I am fighting back in Congress to lower the high cost of living, make quality healthcare affordable, and put an end to harmful policies. I hope you will join me.

Trump's $250 "Visa Fee"

San Antonio welcomes millions of international visitors every year from countries like Mexico adding billions to our local economy.

Trump’s $250 visa fee on international tourists will cost billions in revenue and kill jobs. This is bad for business and bad for Texas families.

Redistricting Fight

Last Friday, Governor Greg Abbott signed Texas' redrawn congressional map into law. The fight doesn’t end here. It moves to the courtroom. I’ll do everything in my power to support efforts to protect voting rights here at home and across the country. Our democracy depends on it.

PARTNER Act to Support U.S. Global Leadership Passes in the House

Solving global challenges requires diplomacy. I spoke on the House floor about my bill, the PARTNER Act, which will strengthen U.S. leadership, deepen our alliances, and keep America at the center of global diplomacy and science. On Tuesday, it passed in the House with bipartisan support. I am urging the Senate to pass it as quickly as possible.

Addressing Gun Violence in America

Our community deserves an end to gun violence. My heart is with the families who have lost a loved one to gun violence.

This Congress, Members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force have introduced a slate of legislation to make our country safer. This legislation would expand background checks, keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people and regulate weapons that are being used by criminals to harm our communities.

I am urging Speaker Mike Johnson and my Republican colleagues to help pass this legislation.

In the News

San Antonio Current — "Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signs Texas’ redrawn congressional maps into law"

"Even so, Texas Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-San Antonio, said the fight over Abbott’s attempt to tilt the midterm scales is only getting started.

“This will hurt every Texan, especially the Latino and Black communities cut up in this gerrymandered map,” Castro said in a statement. “Republicans have rigged the system to keep power in their hands, not earn it. This isn’t democracy at work, it’s voter suppression — and all Texans will suffer the consequences.”

“The fight doesn’t end here,” he added. “It moves to the courtroom.”"
