Back in Washington

Congressman Sessions presides over the House as Speaker Pro Tempore

Lots of work to do for our first week back in session following the August District Work Period. With funding for federal agencies expiring on October 1, we have our work cut out for us to ensure we get the government funded. Republicans will not let the government shut down. Click here to watch me give a recap of the week.

Cure Sanfilippo Foundation

Congressman Sessions meets with the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation
On Thursday, I met with the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation to discuss the dire need to stop the trend of FDA delays and rejections affecting Americans with rare diseases. These delays are having devastating consequences for patients and their families, while also driving biotech innovation overseas. Despite the authority Congress gave the FDA in the 21st Century Cures Act to use accelerated approval for rare diseases, the agency continues to underutilize this tool. I appreciated hearing from the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and will work with the FDA as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations to help them use the tools provided by Congress to help Americans with rare diseases.
Legislation of the Week

H.R. 5125To Abolish DC Judicial Nomination Commission
I am proud to announce that I introduced this legislation this week to stop DC’s independent commission from nominating activist federal judges who refuse to prosecute dangerous criminals and return the power to nominate judges back to where it belongs, in the executive branch.

H.J. Res. 104Unleashing American Energy CRA
I voted YES to overturn restrictions on future coal leasing in Montana’s Powder River Basin, supporting U.S. energy and mineral dominance.

H.J. Res. 105Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry CRA
The Biden Administration locked up more than 4 million acres in North Dakota, blocking coal, oil, and gas development. I voted YES to repeal this rule and ensure American energy can reach full potential.

H.J. Res. 106Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential CRA
I voted YES to overturn restrictions on 3.6 million acres in Alaska, paving the way for the Alaska LNG Pipeline, which is expected to produce 3.6 billion cubic feet of gas daily and create over 10,000 jobs.

H.R. 4553Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026
This week, we passed the Energy Appropriations bill to provide necessary funding for America’s energy industry, ensuring we remain the strongest in the world.
